Water Tool Exploration Station
This hands-on water investigation encourages children to experiment with spray bottles, droppers, funnels, sponges, and other water tools. Through comparison, testing, and observation, children strengthen fine motor control, prediction skills, and an understanding of how different tools work.
Instructions
Set out a variety of water tools and containers for exploration.
Invite children to test each tool and observe how it moves, sprays, drips, or transfers water.
Encourage children to compare the amount of water each tool can hold or move.
Predict which tools will be fastest, slowest, strongest, or most effective.
Experiment with combining tools and creating new ways to move water.
Share observations and discoveries with others.

Infant & Toddler Adaptations
Offer large sponges, cups, funnels, and spray bottles for safe exploration. Encourage children to squeeze, pour, scoop, spray, and transfer water between containers while modeling action words such as fill, empty, drip, spray, soak, and squeeze. Support children as they compare how different tools feel, move, and interact with water.
