Seashell Feelings Sort

This ocean-inspired SEL activity encourages children to identify, compare, and discuss emotions while sorting seashells and ocean treasures into feeling categories. Through conversation and hands-on exploration, children strengthen emotional awareness, vocabulary, and communication skills.

Instructions

  1. Place ocean treasures and feeling cards on the table.

  2. Invite children to sort items into different feeling groups.

  3. Encourage children to identify and name each emotion.

  4. Discuss situations that might cause those feelings.

  5. Explore healthy ways to respond to different emotions.

Materials

  • Seashells, sea glass, or smooth stones

  • Emotion cards or feeling faces

  • Small containers or sorting trays

  • Ocean-themed basket or tray

  • Optional labels for feeling categories
