Creativity becomes even more meaningful when it's shared. In Piece by Piece, children work together on one collaborative work of art, responding to, extending, and celebrating one another's ideas along the way. As the artwork grows, they discover that every contribution has value and that something truly special can happen when imagination, curiosity, and creativity come together.
Instructions
Invite children to gather around a large shared piece of paper placed on the floor or a large table.
Encourage each child to begin creating in any space that inspires them using paint and open-ended materials.
Notice the ideas developing around the artwork and invite children to extend, connect, or respond to one another's creations in their own unique ways.
Continue creating together, celebrating every contribution as the artwork grows and changes.
Reflect as a group by exploring how many different ideas came together to create something no one could have created alone.

Large roll of paper or oversized poster paper
Washable paint
Paint trays or palettes
Paintbrushes
Open-ended painting tools (optional)
